If you’re on the road a lot and need access to your e-business, you can easily turn your cellphone into a router that picks up your broadband account and sends it to your laptop to allow you to use the internet wherever you are.

Here are two software products that do this:  JoikuSpot and wmwifirouter.

(I have not tried either product and was simply interested to know of their existence. You will need to check if they work with your phone.)

Check out this interactive broadband map that plots the coverage of NZ’s major broadband providers and allows broadband users to note their location and comment on the status of broadband in their area.

At the moment, it is focused heavily on central and local government organisations that use broadband but as it gains comments and new features, it could become a very useful resource for defining the broadband landscape and issues experienced by broadband users.


nz’s fastest broadband

If broadband is critical to your e-business, check out who provides New Zealand’s fastest broadband, according to a new study from broadband benchmarker Epitiro Technologies.

Epitiro says Orcon tops their nationwide broadband speed survey and Telstraclear did best of the big three. Small providers Inspire and Snap also did very well but to very small customer bases.
